LG NanoCell 81 doesn't do HDR10 @ YCC 422
Seems like the chroma subsampling might be broken/under-utilized.
- LG 49NANO81TNA
- FW Ver. : 03.21.75
So recently I got an Xbox Series X & following the video of Vincent from HDTVtest I setup the TV accordingly.
No matter what, I was not able to get HDR10 working properly even though it is advertized.
So here is how it looks. I have added the bandwidth required too just as a point of information.
In normal mode (SDR) I found following to be supported/available
- YCC 444 8b, 17.82 Gbps
- YCC420 10b, 11.14 Gbps
Now Xbox Series X has a setting that allows YCC 422 output. This setting doesn't change the above observation. But it does change the HDR behavior
In HDR mode
- Disallow 422: YCC 420 10b, 11.14 Gbps
- Allow 422: YCC 422 8b, 11.88 Gbps
Now looking at SDR mode observations above,. full 18 Gbps is supported so it should also support YCC 422 10b but it doesn't
What is weird is that in SDR it does 444 8b but in HDR it doesn't.
Seems like there is a bandwidth cap of 12 Gbps for 10b or HDR modes.
Also, FreeSync support is absent but product page says it is supported. Not sure what to do to get that. Product page says VRR which also is absent. I do have ALLM tho.
These problems should be addressed. I have tried getting in tough with LG over their email support but the responses are barely helpful and with no resply channel on the mail.
