    LG webOS TV UJ750v

    Software Version: 05.80.15

    Purchased Jan 2018 Ireland

There is a similar thread already on these issues on this site. I am posting here also so people can see in case they miss the other thread.

Pop up messages all the time. 'Unknown device disconnected' + 'Unknown device connected' + 'Wireless Lan disconnected' etc. Very annoying.

Also the Magic Remote control isn't magic anymore. Only works if/when it wants to, if at ALL.

These issues only started about 2 months ago or so.

I was very happy with the quality & Picture from this tv until these issues started. After reading other peoples posts on here I am not very confident of a fix to this issue.

I will definitely take into consideration the brand when I go to get another TV. I should have paid the extra few €'s for the Samsung or Sony devices. Lesson learnt.

    Hi from the UK
I’m also having the exact same issue with unknown device disconnected and the Wi-Fi issue on SJ810V since the update software 05.80.15  in December. Problem happened 1 week before warranty expired but because I reported it a couple of weeks later trying to find a fix myself  LG want to charge me £150 to replace the WiFi card.  I still think it was the update causing the fault as it worked perfectly for the whole year. I have it now wired to the Ethernet with a power line as it can’t connect to the WiFi.

Have model 55SJ8000.  Bought 16 mns ago.  Also receiving "unknown device may be disconnected" notice.  Cannot watch Netflix or Amazon prime - says my device may not be connected to the internet.  I have wifi and two computers that connect just fine.  Remote also stops working sometimes.  I paid $800 for this tv - would expect it to work longer than 16 months!  LG do you stand behind your products or not?  If you don't provide a fix I'll never buy another LG product again, and will make sure everyone I know knows what a piece of crap you make, and what terrible customer service you have!

I have the same problem with my TV.  It started a few months ago.   Very frustrating!  I go back to factory settings and it seems to correct the problem for a while.  It also has problems with WiFi connectivity -   When the WiFi stops working (it doesn’t even see networks to connect to) the pop up Unknown Device Disconnected starts to pop up!  Annoying!!  I don’t even use the WiFi as I stream from my Apple TV.   But it appears I might have to get the WiFi board replaced to stop the pop ups?

I'm getting the Unknown Device Disconnected, and I also can't connect to my WiFi, so that's obviously the problem.

I have a 65SJ8500 and I have been dealing with the annoying pop-up for the last 3 months and i’m Tired of it. I’ve tried everything ... “hard reboot”, disconnecting all my devices, reset my network, sacrificed a virgin ... nothing is working! I’m stuck in STORE mode so the pop up doesn’t enduce any seizures and it’s the only place I can actually ‘disable notifications.’

I see a few people saying they simply replaced the WiFi module and they have had success. I have not seen any post as to where I can go get a WiFi Module.

    HELP!

    Hi everyone,

I originally posted in this thread on 04/02/19. At that time, the 'unknown device is disconnected' message was popping up on my screen multiple times a day. It was also causing problems with my TV remote, and my Netflix app was having trouble buffering.

I managed to 'fix' the problem by completely disabling the WiFi on the TV. This wasn't an issue for me as I'm using an Ethernet cable to connect the TV to the internet. After doing this, the 'unknown device' messages stopped appearing for over a month. However, for the last two weeks the message has started to appear again, at least once per day. I have no idea how disabling the WiFi managed to resolve the issue for a month, but now it's back to how it was before.

I've seen a lot of people mention problems with the WiFi module, but if I'm using an Ethernet cable to connect to the internet my TV shouldn't be affected by a WiFi issue, should it?

I'm really not sure what to do next.. but it's good to know I'm not the only person frustrated by this annoying error.

Wanted to leave an update on this issue:

    MODEL OF TV: 65SJ8500
    PURCHASE DATE: September 3, 2017
    PURCHASE LOCATION: BEST BUY
WHEN I STARTED NOTICING ISSUE: December of 2018

With the help of JamalofLG and the LG Warranty team, i was able to fix the issue today.

But there is more to the story.

After acknowledging the fact that this is a known issue impacting 2017 models of smart TVs, LG put me in touch with their warranty department. Because my TV is out of warranty, LG put me in touch with two, third party service providers to do the repair.

The companies LG put me in touch with either were no longer in business OR they said they no longer did service on LG TVS.

After calling LG back with this information, LG searched to see if there was a certificed techinician in my area that they could send out and do the repair.

Luckily there was. Unfortunately, it came with a $125 TRAVEL FEE!!!! There would be an additional fee for labor and parts.

I asked for LG to consider waiving this fee seeing how this is a known issue and I would hope that LG would consider extending the warranty under this circumstance. They were not willing to do so.

They continued to tell me to make sure I have the TV off the wall before they came. They did not want to be libel for the TV if it were to fall and get damaged. Even when I said that it would be a sign that they cared about the customer to help me out, they still said it was against company policy to pull TVs off the wall. Give me a break!

After scheduling the repair, the techinician called and had me give him the exact same information i had already given LG’s Warranty Department (SN, Model, and the issue i was having). That was really odd that he didn’t have any of that on file already.

All that said, the repair technician did show up on time after he shipped the part to my home for delivery the morning of the repair and after about 20 minutes of work, the TV is back up and running.

    WiFi networks are now detected.
    Remote now works correctly.
    Pop-up is gone.

I was charged $85 for the part and $96 for the labor. So that with the travel fee, I am out $306+tax for this repair.

In addition to the fact that a faulty WiFi Module would disrupt my ability to enjoy watching the television, what really pisses me off is that if LG simply gave the user the option to turn off notifications in HOME mode, this would be a non-issue.

For those of you who are curious, the PART # they brought over is:

    BRAND: LG
    PRODUCT NAME: RF Module
    MODE NAME: LGSBWAC72
    FCCIF: BEJLGSBWAC72
    MSIP-CRM-LGE-LGSBWAC72

They shipped the card pre-installed in a “WiFi bracket” which had a new power button attached.

That part ID seems to be: SJ85

Maybe someone can use this info and save a buck or two by simply buying the part and doing the work themselves.

Meanwhile, I’m hoping someone from LG will read this and agree that LG should be doing more to help the customer out.

Having read through all these posts, in the hope of finding a solution to an identical problem  I am experiencing, I have to say I am very disappointed, revolted and disgusted even by the lack of supportive action LG are offering.  If this isn't fixed, I shall add LG to my list including Sony and Apple, of brands to never consider using.

I have an SJ800V model which was perfect for eleven months until, like an idiot, I accepted a system update.  Then the magic remote started behaving erratically (not responding for 30 seconds, or unless you removed the batteries and pout them back in).  Next Netflix started dumping me out of films by buffering up to 25% and stopping.  Amazon and You Tube stutter but continue. Finally the "Unknown Device Disconnected" appeared.  It is almost as if LG are adopting Apple's idea of updating a device into obsolescence.  This is tantamount to robbery!

My tv is hardwired to the router via ethernet, so the wifi module that seems to be the cause of the issue amongst those here is clearly either badly designed,  badly manufactured, or not compatible with the updated programming.

Any of these factors suggest to me that for any business interested in establishing some kind of long term thinking and brand loyalty there should be a recall.  I for one would be happy to receive a replacement (updated) wifi module to fit myself FREE of CHARGE of course.  In exchange, I wouldn't charge LG for my labour.

Oh - and the only mod that offered help, via a Facebook link was to a US customer.  Anybody willing to offer help to the UK, or is some form of racism an issue here?

mine happened right after the last update in December, they need to put out a fix, it's pretty clear it has to do the last update. there is no way to roll back firmware.. and of course I'm just out of warranty on my SJ8000

I resolved mine by unplugging the wifi adapter and then plugging it back in. (I planned on replacing the wifi adapter so I took it apart to grab the part number and then unplugged and put it back after getting the part number). It has been working for 2 days since I did that. I still ordered a back up wifi adapter.

My TV is also doing the error messages "unknown device is connected." It is having issues connecting to my apps. It is constantly buffering.

I have called customer service twice. They did not help me either time. I was told to hard reset. Unplug everything and reset. Put it in store mode turn all the crap off and then return to home mode. Update my software...etc and so on. I'm very annoyed. I want to throw this think out the window and NEVER buy from LG again.

Vent over. Who knows what to do?

If I were you @tibs055, I would take the back off, disconnect the wireless module (both ends of the cable), dust all the connections with a blast of compressed air, and then reconnect everything.  If you are under warranty, you could get a technician to come do it for you.

So here it is April 14th and I'm noticing nothing being done about this issue.
I'm having the same issues as.most of everyone else. It keeps saying "unknown device connected" or "LAN cable disconnected" nothing I've tried has fixed it. I probably factory reset it 5 times now.

This is all convenient that I am just a month out of my warranty. I'm contacting a lawyer to see about getting a class action law suit started. When this many people are having issues with your product fixing it should be your number one priority.

I will NEVER buy LG products again. They have gotten a lot of my money because everything in my house is LG. So they are losing a big payday by me leaving as a customer.

I have just removed the back plastic panel from my 55UJ7700, and unplugged and removed the wifi module. It's located in the black plastic housing connected to the bottom center power button. Unplug a cable, remove another screw, and you can take the wifi card right out. I then powered on the tv before reassembling and it's working without issue. I've been able to connect the LAN cable now and it's no longer giving me the device is disconnected message.

This is a success. Looks like you can buy new wifi modules on ebay for under $30. The only downside is the magic pointer on the remote still doesn't work, but the remote signal seems better and let's me arrow through the selections faster than it did prior (one of the side effects of the wifi module I presume).

Anyway, I was really angry for a month watching this notification pop up once per minute. It's gone now.

@Gregcarter304 I have the exact same model 65UJ7700 and the WiFi module part number is:

LG 65UJ7700-UA Wireless LAN Module EAT63377302

If you google it, a lot of part stores and eBay come up for it.

Please try this one. Mine looks improved through below method.
I posted it to other case and copied here again as it looks this is the same issue.

    1. Select "Screen Share" from the input source list (Live TV, HDMI1/2/3/.../Screen Share/DLNA...)
    2. In that Screen Share mode, Right upper corner "LISTEN MODE" should be set to "OFF"

After this, in my case, message is gone and WiFi (SSID) was able to turn on & worked.

I began to have this problem a couple months ago so I started doing my research online for a solution. After searching and searching I found out that it was the wifi module that was faulty. My tv (UJ6300) only came with a 1 year warranty and well it's been more than a year since I got this tv so I was not about to pay a LG technician to come fix my tv so I just left it alone and said oh well I'll live with it. But today I finally said f it I'm going to fix this problem myself or break the tv trying. So I took the liberty of grabbing my power drill and opening my tv. I then removed the wifi module located at the bottom center of the tv and VOILA! It worked! I am not going to bother replacing the wifi module because I have both an Apple TV and Xbox One that are capable of doing the same things this so called smart tv does. Although if you do want to replace it I heard you can get them fairly cheap on eBay.
PS I do not have any tech experience. I'm just an average dude with a handy power drill. So if I can do it you can too!

with everything I read, I think it the software 05.80.10 mine started it right after the update ( UJ6200) 2017 year model. Something in the update broke something and LG hadn't fix it or can't fix it

same issue here, strange that my cheaper brand tv never had these issues, I was all set to buy new appliances all LG for my remodel.  unless this issue is fixed by LG, I guess I'll look elsewhere.  in the mean time I'll take out the wi fi card and see if that works.

I just updated to the new 05.80.20 update and I havn't gotten the message so far after the update.  It seems to have fixed it.  Id suggest everyone trying it and seeing if it fixes the issue.  I'll keep waiting to see if the issue comes back, but it looks to have been a driver error.  if this fixes anyone issue, let me know please.

(update)  nope, didn't fix it, problem is back worse then before.

Count me as another (UK) owner of an LG55UJ750, now out of warranty.

I've had the 'unknown device disconnected' popup issue for months now, but more recently it's become persistent - just continual enough to drive you insane - combined with the magic remote being ridiculously sluggish or effectively dead, primarily when using Netflix of Amazon through the TV's own app.

I previously tried the full reset and that had worked for a while, but obviously it's back worse than ever.

After reading the full thread, I didn't have the chance to remove the back panel (not easy when it's wall mounted!) but I did find an old 'air cleaner' (ie compressed air in a can) and gave it a blast into the two air vents on the bottom surface of the tv...and remarkably the popup issue seems to have stopped!  No doubt it'll be back but thought this might be useful for anyone after a quick temporary fix.

Pathetic situatiion - I'll be trying a panasonic next time.
