For LG to simply miss the implementation of 6 and 8 channel LPCM is mind boggling. Unfortunately, I just bought the C9 and I'm now thinking of how to return it. I really hope there is some response to this soon.
I love this TV but I'm very frustrated by the lack of PCM audio over eARC. When you buy a $7000 TV you expect all of the advertised features, including eARC, to work correctly. I really hope LG will fix this in a firmware update. It will effect how likely I am to buy LG TVs in the future and whether I would recommend them to a friend.
I replaced my Denon X4400H with a Denon X4500H and now have a working eARC configuration... however I have run into the limitation with PCM audio not working over the C9 eARC connection. As this should be a relatively easy fix for LG to support these sound formats I am chiming in that us owners really want to see this addressed soon in a firmware update.
I've tried CRU to spoof the EDID, the result is that Windows thinks there are 7.1 channels and tries to send audio to all of them, but the AVR still only sees the FL and FR channels and sound only comes through those channels.
I am not sure whether the HD Fury actually fixes the multichannel LPCM issue, as the people who have used it (including rtings.com) appear to have had slightly different issues and achieved different outcomes. Not sure if @UdoG can confirm whether they got multichannel LPCM working via eARC before returning their HD Fury?
On a related note, does anybody know if one can use Custom Resolution Utility to achieve the same EDID spoofing as the HD Fury? I've seen it mentioned elsewhere, but so far failed to get multichannel LPCM eARC passthrough working.
I just spent over $6k on the 77 C9, so I hope LG can resolve this quickly with firmware and allow all multichannel uncompressed LPCM signals to be passed via eARC without any HDMI CEC interference. Thank you!
Throwing my hat into the ring on this limitation as well, multichannel LPCM support would be greatly appreciated for Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch gaming. (found out to my dismay last night that I had to run my Switch through my AV receiver for surround sound)
I wholeheartedly support the request to implement proper multichannel PCM support for eARC. There's many scenarios where this is useful/needed. I hope LG will support the full eARC implementation. Thank you.
I am very interested in this as well as I will be connecting my PC direct to the TV using eARC to an Onkyo TX-RZ830. I will also be buying an HDMI 2.1 GPU when those become available.
UdoG, I will be getting an 4K Fury adapter on Monday and was wondering what settings you used on the adapter when you connected it between the C9 and you AVR?
I just hope that LG can make this minor modification for the AudioEDID and unlock the full power of the HDMI 2.1 eARC feature. Come on LG, you were brave enough to deliver us a full HDMI 2.1 premium TV in 2019 when no other manufacturer did! Do what you need to do and add the 8 channels LPCM AudioEDID to the eARC pass-through! Thank you!
I'm also waiting for this to be added to an otherwise great TV so I can input 5.1/7.1 PCM from a PC. I almost didn't buy this TV because of this limitation and there are others on the fence. The rtings review also points out this missing feature and adding it could help improve the score. Thank you!
Thanks Jamal, I just want to second that this is also an issue on the 77"C9 - it also cannot pass PCM audio through eARC. The PC and Xbox only recognize it as a 2 channel device. The ability to pass uncompressed multi channel PCM sound through eARC is crucial for PC and console gaming. The TV does pass through Atmos and other sound codecs, but these introduce audio latency which is unacceptable for gaming.
I see your comments on the EDID limitations. I have escalated the issue over to our Engineering Dept. for review to see what can be done. I will provide an update once I get more information.
Absolutely. Seems like a real waste for all the latest formats to be supported while multichannel PCM doesn’t work! It still has a lot of uses on PCs, consoles, Apple TVs etc etc.

Right now the TV with apps (Emby/Plex) will passthrough Atmos with Dolby surround but not Atmos with TrueHD.
Thanks @JamalofLG it's good to see LG engage with its customers.

Any feedback from your Engineering Department?
Please keep us informed.
Thanks!
Sorry, I sold my 4K Fury - with the hope, that LG will fix this soon.
Thank you.

This is a major limitation on the eARC feature and hopefully it will be corrected soon.
