My uj651v+SK9Y+SPK8 have same issue =( If I connect my PS4 directly to soundbar - everything works perfect. But I prefer watch Youtube and Netflix using only TV.
Hey everyone! Just got a C9 (wow) and a Samsung Q90R Soundbar to go with it. Best lockdown ever!
Until...I immediately noticed lip sync lag. On basically everything. Internal apps and external connections.
Video is slightly behind audio. The closest I’ve got to it being right is:
PS4 pro + LG 4kplayer to HMDI on Samsung Q90R> then HMDI Arc to LGC9.
But as good as The Matrix looks in 4K, Trinity’s lips are just a little slow... And flashes are behind etc. and when you see the dialogue delay. You can’t I see it!
I don’t want to be dramatic but actually lost sleep over this after spending more money than I’ve ever spent and really needing the relaxing comfort of losing myself in some films...From Endgame on Disney+ to Endgame on UHD Disc...it’s just ain’t right.
I spent a night digging through all these forums and Dolby seems to be the issue? But don’t really want to go back to digital optical 5.1 and lose all this Atmos etc. so close but yet so well, 10ms far.
Has ANYONE solved this? I’ll be eternally grateful.

Update: I got my Sony HT-ZF9 today and connected it via eARC and it’s working with no lag for me.
xbox set to atmos and soundbar confirms I’m getting it “Dolby atmos 48khz dolby surround” is what it tells me.
Worth noting that when I turned everything off and tried it again an hour later the terrible delay was back... I then turned off the soundbar and turned it back on again, this switched the sound to tv speakers then back to soundbar and then it was perfect again.
If all I have to do is make sure I turn the soundbar on last or turn it off and on again once in a while I’m gone with that! So eARC works for me!
Wow. I just connected my Apple TV with the LG C9 and it’s perfectly in sync. This must be a bad joke. I guess the dream of 4K YouTube in HDR is gone and I'll order a second Apple TV.
Ok, now I can say very clearly that the sound is too late and that the picture mode influences it. Which makes no difference: Whether I connect the soundbar optically or via HDMI ARC.
With the following video and the slowmotion function of the iPhone camera I could see how everything is influenced.
YouTube app with picture mode Standard: 300ms delay
YouTube app with picture mode Expert: 200ms delay
Xbox with picture mode game: 150ms delay
Xbox with picture mode Expert: 200ms delay
The interesting thing is that even without the soundbar a delay of 150ms could be measured. To check if the sound in the slowmotion video was simply delayed, I tried the same with my old TV. Here the sound was always perfect to the millisecond in the video.
Something LG has definitely done something really wrong here. I also don't understand why you can only move the sync in one direction (the wrong one).
Guys is there any confirmation that a Sony HTZF9 soundbar that supports eARC removes this issue? I’ve got a short amount of days left to swap my soundbar out and it would be great to know ASAP if anyone has this working with no sync issues.
It is relatively difficult to see whether the sound comes before or after the picture, because the difference is really small. However, it is clearly noticeable.
My soundbar goes directly into the TV. Previously via an optical cable, now via HDMI ARC. In both cases there are sync problems.
It's really frustrating to spend so much money on a TV and then the sound is always synced differently from source to source. But the sound from the internal speakers is also just not good enough to use them easily. It can't be that difficult for LG to keep the signals in sync.
It sounds like you’re having a different issue in that your video is coming after your audio. Hence why disabling additional video processing such as trumotion is helping. We are having an issue where audio is coming after video, which is why non of our sync options work and speeding the video up actually makes it worse.
im guessing you’re going external source to soundbar or receiver then into tv?
Sorry I posted my last comment accidantally in german and can't delete or edit it now…
Something I noticed this morning. After switching from optical to HDMI ARC over the weekend, the problems seemed to be minimized for the time being (sync setting to +1). Definitely not gone, but much less noticeable.
Now I saw the first movie on it yesterday and the sync was much worse than on YouTube, Netflix etc. When we had a short break I went into the picture settings to check something, because the picture was muddy from time to time. And look: TruMotion was active. The Apple TV app automatically switched to movie mode and here the settings are different from the standard ones. I deactivated it and the sync shifted a bit in the right direction.
Now for what I noticed this morning. I set the picture settings to expert in between and the sync problems were suddenly gone. The sound came out perfectly with the picture after I disabled the extra sync settings. So it seems to have something to do with the fact that all the "picture enhancements" make the picture come out much later and the sound doesn't adjust accordingly.
I only tried it for a few minutes before work, but I'll definitely take a closer look. It would be great if someone here could confirm or disprove my observations.
I decided to go a bit mad and spend the most amount of money I’ve ever spent on a TV before. Found a deal for a 65 B9 and SL8YG, I then added the additional 2 rear speakers.
so excited when it all arrived Wednesday! Connected it all up with hdmi arc to soundbar and Was absolutely blown away by picture and sound, Dolby vision and atmos.
xbox into the TVs HDMI 1 and set audio to pass through. Picture insane and VRR is great using the TVs hdmi2.1 features which was why I bought it. Moment of truth and yes the soundbar is picking up atmos from Xbox through the tv!! Then realise the delay, then find this discussion 😭.
ive called LG who were very dismissive and said it’s my cable or settings. I told them about this discussion and they said if it was a problem with the TV they’d have loads of complaints about it. Not very reassuring, basically didn’t even recognise it as an issue. I made them raise it up and after the service rep laughed at me for asking to include this discussion link he finally did. Will see what happens but not going to hold my breathe.
I have had an LG TV and LG Sound Bar (SJ4) for years now. The reason was always that the sync works perfectly. Since the day before yesterday, I now have the LG 65C9 and the picture is amazing. Unfortunately the sound is terrible. Not the quality, but the sync.
Everything is about 50-100ms off. Unfortunately the internal settings only allow one direction of shifting and it's the wrong one... The soundbar is optically connected and as I said before, there were never any problems with it. Even if I activate Bypass it does not improve, on the contrary it gets worse.
Interestingly enough, there are no sync problems when I disable LG Sync in the auto settings for optical. Unfortunately, it is then no longer possible to turn the soundbar up and down with the TV remote control. There is simply no access to the volume anymore.
So now I have the choice between using two remote controls or having asynchronous sound. This is not what I've paid so much money for...

Update. Confirmed optical to my sound bar didn't make any difference.
If someone is able to confirm an eARC sound system removes this issue, i would be happy to invest in one. But as the problem still exists on optical out... i think it is a core issue with the TV, not the ARC output.
I wonder if it is possible to get a refund. Maybe that is the reason LG is so quiet about this issue.
I have the B8 and similar issues/use cases. Because i am using an older logitech z5500 5.1 system (only one optical in), i am forced to feed all audio from xbox/shield via HDMI into B8, then optical out to receiver.
What works - Xbox audio is set to DTS and while playing COD, I do NOT notice any delay.
What doesnt:
Internal Youtube app - the audio delay is so bad i cannot use it, i use shield youtube app and it helps but still delay
any dolby (and im pretty sure dts) content playing through any video app (ie plex/kodi) through the shield
The LG audio adjuster slider menu, makes things worse
Have been patiently waiting for a fix since i purchased this set in Dec 2018 and nothing.
I have been following this thread for awhile. Most issues here seem to talk about an external HDMI device (Xbox) connected to TV then audio out ARC causing the audio delay issue.
I only use internal apps (Netflix, Prime Video, PLEX) and find this audio sync so frustrating. Delay is inconsistent, sometimes it's completely fine, other times it's horrible (must be different audio streams). Netflix seems to be the best for delay, prime video is usually pretty bad. In PLEX I found disabling "Dolby Digital Plus (EAC3)" is a MUST. Massive delay for any Dolby Digital Plus content, but there is still a smaller delay for other audio streams.
I have a simple setup, just C9 then ARC to Sony soundbar (HT-CT780). And chromecast backup connected to the TV for times there isn't an internal LG app. The TV is amazing in every way, except this audio sync problems ruins it. Instead of enjoying my TV i am constantly trying to sort the audio sync issues. I got the Sony soundbar back in 2015 and never had any audio sync problems with my 2015 Sony TV. I would happily buy a LG soundbar with eARC if i knew it would resolve my issues.... but seems that won't even help.
Audio is delayed (ie video is ahead).
Things i have tried:
Using internal speakers (i believe there is still a delay here)
Using ARC - PCM
Using ARC - Passthrough
Using TV Audio sync ON - 'slider bar' just seems to make the sync worst.
Using the 'audio sync' function on my Sony Soundbar (and also combined with TV sync ON)
Playing PLEX content through chromecast connected to TV, still has delay
[As suggested in this thread] I deactivated Dolby Atmos and AI sound when I selected TV speakers as main output for audio and then when going back to HDMI arc, I selected Passthrough. (these settings are greyed out when using ARC).
Disabled "Dolby Digital Plus (EAC3)" in PLEX [THIS IS A MUST]
Things yet to try (my tv is wall mounted... so this will be a pain):
Optical Cable to soundbar (reading this thread, this wont help)
Plugging chromecast into soundbar (reading this thread, this should help)
I've just got a C9 and having this issues with Dolby Digital through ARC. It's only a slight delay but I can see it. How is it not been fixed yet? My only guess is it can't be fixed in a software patch.
Same issue here. Bought the LG C9 for gaming, but when I connect my Xbox One X directly to the TV (that's when you get VRR and ALM ticked in) I get a cca. 100-200 ms delay in the Dolby Atmos audio.
It is annoying. And even more annoying that I fell for the marketing BS that this the "best display for gaming"."Future proof" my ass. I will get rid of it asap and buy a Sony instead.
Yet another customer commits to LG with a C9 65 inch TV and LG Sk9y soundbar left disappointed. It would be nice if LG paid attention to its premium customers and put a priority on issues like this.
Been at least 9 months since the first post and still, no acknowledgment or update let alone a fix. The head does not know where its tail is.
I have the LG B7 tv. On connecting to power today , before I pressed the on button there was a message that the firmware had been updated. It now says 05.80.55.
Firstly , I’m glad LG are still supporting a tv that was discontinued around 2 yrs ago.
Ok. So the audio. I can see no lipsync issue any more. This is with using ARC for Apple TV 4K , streaming a movie , on my amp it says “TV” for the audio source and signal it says is Dolby Atmos . Same result with TV’s Netflix app watching Self Made. Edit : this apparent fix is despite it NOT being mentioned in the “improvements”.
But I am noticing a potential issue already. The ARC audio is cutting out after several minutes. This has happened twice now. The second time , I checked the audio info on my amp. It was still ARC (tv) input. However the type of audio now said “PCM” instead of Dolby Digital. So I would deduce for this that the Tv is accidentally switching the ARC output to PCM which is mute. I will confirm this.
This audio cut out happened while I was streaming a movie on Apple TV 4K. Simultaneously, and bizarrely , when I tried to pause the movie using the Apple TV remote control , it wouldn’t respond. I had to press menu on the Apple TV remote to come out , then restart movie. Even then , it was silent. The what I did was start Netflix using the TV’ Netflix app. The Dolby Atmos cape back over ARC. The TV’s audio setting were appropriate when I checked there and then.
I restarted the Apple TV movie and the Dolby Atmos is ok at the moment. I will update this as I go.
Billywizzo I really would like to keep VRR and ALLM features i get when connected directly to the TV. But I guess I will make a compromise and connect to the soundbar directly.
Try connecting your Xbox direct to the soundbar and the soundbar to the tv via ARC. Does this fix the sound issues from the Xbox. This worked for me with my Samsung soundbar but I had more that one device I wanted to connect that had Dolby sound and with only 2 HDMI ports and one used to connect to the tv I gave up and returned the soundbar.
Will wait for one with eARC and hope that fixes the sound lag issue when devices are connected to the tv.
A week ago I purchased the LG SL10Y soundbar to connect to my C9 Oled and only a few days ago did I discover this discussion.(sadly)
My experience is any built-in app content with dolby atmos through ARC seems to be just fine. I'm only having the delay issue when playing dolby atmos content on my xbox one x through ARC.
Thanks to DJ_GLITCH for getting it this far but I suppose this discussion is pretty much dead?
Well, I don't know what happened, but it seems my issue is gone in everything except games on the Xbox One X in Atmos.
I was troubleshooting with LG and they asked for 3 videos of Atmos out of sync and so I went through Apple TV and Xbox and used Disney+, Apple TV+ and Netflix (Apple TV Netflix will NOT show Atmos now even though it's enabled and works on other apps - no idea on that one) and I couldn't get any of them to fault except games on Xbox One X (CoD:MW to be specific).
Nothing really changed in my setup. On the latest code I am aware of (4.71.05) and have the ARC set to passthrough.
I will keep monitoring, but for now, I'm not seeing the issue.

Ill give optical another go. Granted you have an LG soundbar (i have a Sony).
I have always loved ARC and gone out of my way to have a 1remote setup.
But at this point I will choose 2 remotes if I can be certain audio sync issues are resolved.
We should all open support cases like ajread29, we need to get LG aware of this.
