I too had the "wi-fi off" problem. Consulted the user guide (on the TV - press the Recents/house icon button and scroll right to find it) in which it said to change the wireless signal channel(s) being used via your router manager. Did this and TV connected immediately
Straightening the WiFi wires totally worked for me. Update the date & time as well. Thank you to Jutman for the help, this was a lot better than complaining to LG for 2 months then finally having them send me a new tv only to have the same issue!!
Two weeks ago my TV started having the same problem described by "Jutman14" . An UK7500PSA purchased in February/2019. WIFI not working, disconnecting suddenly, SmartMagic arrow disappeared, etc. I taked the cover off the back and noticed that the cables were a lot bent. I also removed the bottom where is located the WIFI module and the IR sensor and noticed they were also very bent. I released the cables from the blue ribbons that attached them to give more length and straightened them as much as possible without damaging. I reassembled the TV and after turning it on everything was working perfectly again, maybe better than when I bought it. It seemed to me that the problem is bad contact between the WIFI + IR cable on the motherboard. But I could not confirm that because I could not turn on the TV while disassembled. So, I straightened the cables to guarantee all the work.
I have been dealing with this issue for 3 months. I sent an email to LG and they sent me a few options to try. The one below seems to be working for now.
Unplug TV- Hold the TV Remote power button for 10 seconds(resets tv) - Plug TV back in- Done
Literally created this to thank Jutman17 (page 16 if you’re new) for the solution! I’m pretty savvy when it comes to wires and what not, had the back off in 2 minutes, saw the crimped wiring, removed the blue tape around the wiring, pressed the crimps out with my index and thumb, and voila. TV works as good as new in 15-20 min.
Called LG last night and they wanted me to take it to an “authorized service center” which the 3 they provided were no less than 1.5 hrs from me. I called the center, they wanted $300 to fix it.
shame on LG for not extending the warranty for such poor engineering. Literally would have been constructed better by a bunch of chimps than whoever put these units together.
The antenna trick as mentioned here several different times worked for me. Just as promised the ribbon cable was crimped at the wifi module. Not that difficult to perform, I was done in 30 minutes with the TV back up on the wall and everything updated. You will have to crack the case once you remove all the screws but it will snap back together when finished.
Just as an aside, I had an LG washer that started rusting in the bleach tray after only a year. Not only did this happen to many owners, LG was fully aware of it and like the TV issue here, would admit nothing. Finally someone filed a class action and it's currently pending. Don't expect LG to own this problem either. Best to just avoid the brand all together.
I have had problems with the LG Wifi receiver since the beginning, and yesterday it stopped working definitely. After trying every other method without success, I followed the suggestion from "Gifted1986" on page 7 of these comments, I opened my LG 43UH620V.
I immediately noticed the flat cable that was crimped and bent two times and the aspect wasn't good. Here a picture:
I removed the blue plastic that fixed the cables together and I tried to remove the bent as much as possible on both ends of the cable.
Picture of the other end of the cable after the operation:
After that operation, the wifi started working again. The problem with the wifi seems to be due to low-quality manufacturing or a low-quality component (cable). MODEL: 43UH620V - ZA SERIAL: 609WRHNK3881 MANUFACTURED: September 2016
I have much better things to do than take my tv apart, take photos, adjust the wiring and write a longwinded post about it on here... only for you to claim I've done it as a joke?!
That's just disrespectful. Not everyone is out to scam you, and I still dont see the benefit of doing so. I did it to help others overcome an irritating set of problems, just as many others have done on here. After suffering the faults for the last 6 months it's a godsend that others on this forum took the time to provide me with a solution so I'm more than happy to pass that info on.
If you want to sit there being a keyboard warrior with a broken TV because you're too butthurt to accept a solution then be my guest. I'm sat here with a fully functioning TV and an interesting story to tell people who have an LG!
In your own words "We all need either a Solution with a How To Fix It Explanation, or a Sorry Folks You're S.O.L, with Directions On Where To Go."
We are literally giving you one mate, with step by step instructions and even pictures. It's not rocket science to remove a cover and straighten some wires.. hardly going to give you breast cancer is it?
None of the suggestions in the forum worked for me. LG tech support knows what the problem is, but, will not tell you because it would require a massive recall because the problem exists across many of their smart tv models. The solution is to take the back panel off and replace the wifi module. Don't order a new module from LG. They'll charge you $50 for the part. Go to shopjimmy.com. You'll spend about $15. The replacement is easy to do. Just remove the old module and put in the new one. You can recognize the module by comparing the new one to what you find in your tv. If you're afraid of it, order the module and take the tv and rhe new moduke to your local tv repairman. Next time, buy anything but LG.
Just created an account to comment. Had the wifi problem and unknown device disconnected popup. Tried all steps in settings, turning off quick start, reset tv, etc. Nothing worked. Finally decided to pull off back panel and adjust wifi wire crimping. For good measure I disconnected and reconnecting the wifi module. Now wifi works again! Thank you so much. This was done on a 49uj6300 4ktv. Thanks again!
Wish I would have researched this TV before purchasing. Just got this brand new 70" straight out of the box. Mounted it on the wall and turned it on to do the initial set up. The Wifi does not work and says it's turned off. Called customer support and they referred me to a repair company that says they need to order parts. This is ridiculous! Good thing I still have the box because this trash is going back to the store!!!
I bought a wifi extender from Amazon for $17. I plugged it into a socket close to the TV. Its been a week with no problems. It also has a socket that has an ethernet output so I can hardwire if the problem reoccurs.
Newby here, but not to the wifi dilemma. I've been experiencing the frustration to the endless circling of colored dots searching for my wifi for a little over a year now, off and on, with it not being able to find the wifi so much more. I've tried changing the location, turning the TV on and off along with my router, resetting the settings, and other ways I've found during my online search over the last year. Nada, zilch, nothing has worked, but I don't know about that whole take the back of the TV off and let some wires loose bit. People will scam you on anything to get their jollies. They're probably sitting at home laughing their LG's (Large Gluteous Maximus's) off in pleasure over just the thought of the possibility that you screwed up your TV. Heck, some guy posing as a doctor, over the phone, talked several women into cutting off their nipples to save themselves from Getting breast cancer! No anesthesia, just talked them through it..... Over The Phone.... in their bathroom, regular razor blade, on how to do it. He put the fear of cancer in them. I don't understand how someone can be so gullible, and quiet frankly stupid, but they are. I like my TV, and would prefer to have it to watch without being able to use the internet. It would be nice if someone gave us all a straight answer, even if it is to loosen some wires. We all need either a Solution with a How To Fix It Explanation, or a Sorry Folks You're S.O.L, with Directions On Where To Go.
So, I just tried taking the back off of my LG TV to fix the wi-fi connectivity issue. Well I'm here to tell you that IT WORKS PERFECT NOW!!!! The crimps and folds in the wires was absolutely the problem, and unfolding the wires is the for sure solution if you haven't tried it yet. The wires are paper thin so the fact that they were bent up for so long makes me question how or why it worked for almost 2 years. NOTE TO LG: STOP BENDING WIRES!!!
Just made an account here to confirm the problems described by Jutman14 (just above) and Gifted1986 (on pages 7 and 9) must be common, because I had the exact same symptoms described by Jutman14, followed the advice and opened the back of the TV, and sure enough, plenty of those crimps on the Wifi wiring, on both ends (in my case, the ones where it connects to the board were not so bad but the ones on the base made me wonder how it even worked at all!
I am very thankful for the pictures by Jutman14, they were really helpful.
I am really glad I didn´t go through the whole process of factory resetting and so on, though I had already changed batteries on the controller, tried switching off the quick power on thing on my own and was already looking for some problem on the router.
Like others I had to cut loose some of the blue tapes, the result was only slightly messy, but what the hell.
It took me 45 minutes to 1h maybe in total.
All in all, PROBLEM SOLVED now, its been working fine for a few hours, so if you people come across these problems seriously consider it might be related to these crimps on the Wi-fi wiring.
I’m incurring similar WiFi problems 6 months into the purchase of my TV (UK6090PUA). It’s kind of vexing that LG is apparently in no hurry to find a fix, or for that matter, take ownership of what appears to be an increasingly common complaint (an internet search on the subject yields quite a few hits). This is my second LG TV; the other is about 2 1/2 years old and works fine. It’s unfortunate, but when the time comes, I suspect I’ll be moving on to another brand.
I just found this forum because, guess what? My TV has the same problem. It's quite intermittent. Works OK for a couple of days then without warning drops out. I can reset by simply turning it off and on again. Is there a confirmed solution. I really don't want to have to take it off the wall and open the back unless we are sure the cable issue is actually the problem. I assume LG aren't going to do anything about it?
Its is a software bug, not a hardware malfunction because everything becomes normal for a few minutes/hours before the Wifi dropping again and all that. If it's hardware, you won't see Wifi come and go. It will stay out.
All that QuickStart on-off, reset to initial settings is also useless. It may seem working at times but they are not the source of the problem, and consequently not the solution.
The main issue is a software bug. In my case, I know software has a glitch because it changes the date and time to the default date (some date in 2017, probably its manufacturing date), and the moment that happens, Wifi does not turn on. I change the date to current, do a power cycle, and wait for an hour or so and the Wifi comes back.
Moderator, please communicate to your engineers that TV reverts the date back to its manufacturing date suggesting that something is not right in the software.
Please do a proper fix as Life's Not Good right now with this problem persisting for 3 weeks after the TV functioning as supposed to for about 13 months.
First of all I'll quickly describe the issues I had and the changes I attempted to make before following some other advice and solving the issue for good (touch wood).
I had the following issues:
- Unknown device disconnected message
- Wifi dropping out (unable to turn on)
- Smart remote not working (or working intermittently) - Bluetooth initialisation message
- Slow connection when using the menu
I've been having these issues since about a month after buying the tv (no warranty unfortunately). I followed all the advice on here e.g. hard resets, quick start guide off, change wifi channel etc etc. Some of these things worked temporarily but the issue always came back and it had been driving me mad.
Eventually I went ahead and took the back of the TV off to look at the connections (I am by no means a techy so if I can do it so can you). I did this on the advice of others on this forum and it was shocking to see how LG had organised the wires!
Taking the cover off the back is pretty straight forward, just make sure you get all the screws. Its easy to miss some but you'll soon figure it out when the cover won't budge.
Below are images of what I saw when I first removed the cover
- All wires to Wifi module are crimped in multiple locations! Even where they have tried to tidy the wires with blue tape
Now as you can see in the above photos, the wires are seriously bent and crimped at both connector ends as well as where the wires have been taped together.
At this point I removed the connector to the wifi module and straightened the wires out with my fingers. That was the only connector I removed but I also removed all the tape and straightened the wires out at the other end. It looked a little messier but who cares when its inside the tv?!
So there you go, problem solved! everything works as expected now. The connection is faster than ever, the remove never has any issues, Wifi has been stable and fast. You wouldn't know there had ever been something wrong with the TV and I seriously think this could be the issue many of you are having as well. I get that most people are worried to mess with stuff like this but it was easier than I expected.
Frankly I'm shocked at how these wires have been organised and it certainly explains the intermittent nature of the issues (if this was a software issue I think it would be constant). Don't bother with an engineer or with LG, they're expensive and useless. Anyone can do this in under 30mins and its easy stuff. Your TV will probably be slightly different depending on the model but its pretty simple to figure out whats what.
Good luck!
P.s my TV model: 55UJ7507
[UPDATE] 16/08 - Still working perfectly with no dropouts or issues to speak of whatsoever

Just had update 05.80.35 and now my magic remote dropped out and and it's just saying bluetooth initialization, and unknown devices disconnected . Spoke to lg and they are unaware of any issues. The set of lieing asses 🤬 . Theres over 300 issues of the same problem they should sending wifi cards out in the post .
I want to share with you how I finally solved this annoying problem.
THE SOLUTION IS TO FORCE THE TV TO CONNECT ONLY TO THE 2.4 GHz WIRELESS CONNECTION.
If you don´t know how to do it, google will help you. Briefly,
Enter your router main page by providing admin and password (usually via 192.168.0.1 from your browser)
Search for WiFi configuration and name differently your 2.4 and 5.0 wireless connections (e.g. Homewlan and Homewlan50)
Turn on your TV and connect to the 2.4 GHz wireless connection
Problem solved!
You can turn on again quick start feature and change any other setting. Until your TV is connected to the 2.4 GHz you will never have problems.
I hope this will help you to finally enjoy your TV without this annoying problem.
Before finding this solution I also tried:
Turn off the quick start feature
Change the DNS to 8.8.8.8
Change manually time/date or set it to automatic
Factory reset
Open the TV and stretch the cables
None of the above solved the problem. In my case the TV was able to connect to a mobile Hotspot without any problem, which was running at 2.4GHz. This guide me through this solution.
I am very disappointed with LG for not mentioning this problem/solution with their WiFi module since more than a year.
It is the time to make a software update to correct this issue asap!
Edit update:
Reading a few posts back I realized that some of you solved the issue by renaming the SSID of the wireless connection. Usually, this changes only the name of the 2.4 GHz but not the 5.0 GHz.
Many of you solved the problem by stretching the cables. In my case the WiFi module was working but it was unable to connect to the WiFi, suggesting that the cables were well connected. In case you are unable to turn on the WiFi and search for Wireless connection, then you must open your TV and be sure that all the cables are well stretched and correctly plugged in. Follow the instructions of Gifted1986 on page 7 of this thread.
If none of the above works, you can try to buy a new WiFi module (it costs around 10$). Be sure to get a compatible functional 2.4/5.0 Ghz.
It seems that the WiFi problem is a combination of poor assembly of cables, poor quality of the WiFi module, and maybe a software/firmware issue.
Just posting an update, it’s been 2 months since I opened up my TV and flattened out the crimped wires that Gifted1986 pointed out earlier in this thread. Have not had a single issue since then. It was pretty simple fix just about anyone can do.
