Same here. I've been arguing with LG (Netherlands) over audio problems (out of sync, complete audio drop) with my C7 and SK10Y. They blame it on external sources. The out of sync audio happens with my Xbox One X directly to the tv, but when I connect the Xbox to the soundbar it's almost gone. I hate to switch between sources for watching tv or playing on my Xbox, so they better figure this out.
My C9 and my friend's B9 has the exact same issue. Both tv have audio delay with internal speakers and apps, but my friend is lucky that he cannot notice the delay. I believe all Lg oleds have this issue but only a minority of users can notice it, and Lg denies the issue because most customers think they have no problem.
It was another phone call even though I specifically asked for it in writing.
They are now after a proof of purchase (which I have sent) and no idea what they will do. Maybe a refund?
It looks like the CX has the same issues. So what do you buy that has Dolby Atmos that actually works AND HDMI 2.1 etc? Oh, and is OLED. I don't think it exists.
Its a core or design problem in the tv and LG is (for years, appearantly) in denial of the whole thing. I have the C9 and have been trying for months for LG to accept this as a problem.
As a test I disconnected everything from my tv, so no receveiver, game or settop box connected. The only things connected: power, ethernet and dvb-c. Did a factory reset of the tv. Of course now its using its internal speaker. And even THEN:
The audio is always late with internal apps like YouTube and Netflix (200-250 msec late). Internal dvb-c receiver is quite good but still too late: 80 msec. (All multiichannel Dolby Digital tests)
These numbers are all unacceptable.
(In case you wonder: I'm having exact the same audio sync problems with my Onkyo receiver connected, via ARC or TOSlink.)
I have sent this information including some lipsync test videos shot with my phone as 'proof' to LG (in NL) but they are in denial and will stay that way. They are not willing for any further investigation.
Its a shame! My bet is that they are exactly aware of what the problem is but can't fix it for some reason (maybe a WebOS limitation) and so they respond to users that there is (or they see) "no problem", as they did with me just this week. Despite the fact that the problem is perfectly visible/audible and proven in my (presentable) video's.
It is my first LG tv and it will be my last. From here and now on I will advise everyone NOT/NEVER to buy an LG tv.
Unless LG takes action:
1.Acknowledge the problem.
2. Give a time window when they expect to fix the issue.
In the meantime I started to contact my (Dutch) seller and will be trying to get the issue via their channels to LG. Its obvious (Google) that LG has a audio sync issues / lip sync issues for a long time/years and in many tv series. Its now our job to get them to see/ack it first and then to come up with a solution.
LG might be reading this. If so: Please acknowledge that there is a problem with the TV (my point 1 from above). That gives a way better impression than acting as if all is good, when its really not and therefore you are in denial. 2: notify users that you are working out a solution and give users a time window when to expect it. My best educated guess is that a software solution (a new firmware) can be implemented to solve this for any user around the world. If, for some reason, no solution can be acquired, please be honest about that and notify users accordingly and explain why. But, just for your information: it is technically perfectly possible to correctly sync the audio (better than) frame accurate to the video. If you can't, then you'll need to hire better developers and/or invest more time. If WebOS for some reason has a limitation to correctly timestamp the audio, then work with WebOS to get that fixed.
Regards, a multimedia senior software developer and teamleader (who gets the lip-sync right in his own software).
Please do something about it and don't deny it either.
I am adding my voice these delay issues are bush league. I get you have perfect black and all but this is the last time I am buying an LG OLED. Complete garbage that my xbox, LG, and Sonos set up won't work with each other. All are premium products all should communicate without these audio issues.
Same here. New CX 65" with 03.10.20 firmware (Australian model).
Noticeable lag with the current setup:
PS4 Pro and Xbox One X both connected to TV directly with 2.1 compliant HDMI cables.
Audio passed through TV via HDMI (lag)
Audio passed through TB via Optical (lag)
Both Dolby Digital as no DTS option (Thanks LG)
If they can add negative slider functionality it would fix the issue. Worst part is that it's only slightly off. Probably one or two notches down on the slider would fix the problem.
The official answer looks to be "Yes, there is an issue, but if you plug the device into the soundbar and then the TV, even though you lose all the other video based features, then it works, so do that and we consider the issue resolved".
I am logging a case with the ACCC here in AU as that's a completely crap answer. It's made very difficult though as they won't send it in writing and they don't provide a case number for me to reference so I will need to log an official complaint and go through all this again.
So apparently the solution is to bypass the tv audio altogether and connect the xbox through optical audio directly to your soundbar/receiver. So in my case I had my Xbox One connected to my LG E8 through hdmi and my tv connected to my receiver (an older Yamaha without Atmos but with DTS/Dolby Digital) through optical out. That gave me horrendous lag. So I connected my xbox to the tv through HDMI and the xbox to the reciever through optical, set the xbox to output audio through optical and there is no lag.
I checked the audio lag using this YouTube video played through the YouTube app on the xbox: https://youtu.be/jRA1HBZhJ18
Add me to the list, just bought a new Sonos Arc and experiencing significant delay with Dolby Atmos on the XBOX One X when using game mode on my LG C8,
To join the dissatisfied Atmos audio delay group: I bought a 65" C9 paired with a Sonos Arc. I do get significant audio delay when I play TrueHD /DD Atmos files from my PC connected via HDMI. I do not have any lipsync issues with the internal Netflix app though.
Putting in my two cents here to say how disappointed I am that this problem still exists. I just purchased the new Sonos Arc soundbar which supports Dolby Atmos and I'm seeing a 100-200ms delay on pretty much all local app content (YouTube, Netflix etc.).
LG, please release new firmware that gives us the ability to either remove audio processing altogether or go "negative" in the AV adjustment setting.
First post here. Sorry in advance for the long post. Owner of a 65” C9 purchased late last year. Bought the LG SL8YG with the Rear Speakers at the same time and had to return it the next day because of the severe delay on built-in apps and Samsung K8500 BluRay player. Replaced with a Sonos Beam, Sonos Sub, and two Sonos One SL’s for the full 5.1 system for the last 6-7 months.
Recently found out that the Sonos ecosystem has no support, nor will it ever from the looks of it, have support for DTS which a lot of my current bluray discs have as the only audio track. Knowing this, I started searching for new solutions to take full advantage of my C9. Even considering the new “SN” LG soundbars of this year and giving it another chance. (Google setup on that thing was a MAJOR PAIN and I never got it to work)
After reading KaiserKiwi’s recent post of the Samsung soundbars seemingly working to fix the delay. I bit the bullet and picked up a 2020 Samsung Q70T Soundbar today, which supports ALL DTS and Dolby formats, at my local BestBuy. Also picked up the Panasonic UB820 4K BluRay player. Soundbar is connected directly to C9 via HDMI 2. Panasonic Bluray connected to HDMI 1 of the C9.
Popped in Rocketman disc for the Dolby Atmos playback. Works. No lag, no issues. Even says Dolby Atmos on the soundbar. Popped in The Life Aquatic, normal bluray with DTS HD MA as the only track. Same result, no lag no issues.
Both the C9 and soundbar have been updated to their most recent softwares as of 6/24/2020.
The only issue lies when playing a DTS:X bluray like Ex Machina. With the bluray player plugged into the C9, the Q70T did not recognize the DTS:X track. BUT, when the bluray player is plugged into the HDMI in of the Q70T soundbar, DTS:X flashes on the soundbar like it did for Dolby Atmos. Same result for the DTS:X, no issues, no delay.
Any questions i’ll be glad to answer as I know how expensive this TV is and how painful it is to try and figure out!
In addition to the previous post, I can also confirm that the latest firmware 04.80.03 (eARC fix) does nothing to fix the Dolby audio lag from external HDMI devices when using an eARC connection.
My setup: Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 --> LG OLED 55C9 --> Samsung Q90r
The TV is connected to the soundbar via eARC and using Belkin Ultra HD high speed HDMI cables.
I've installed and tested firmware 04.80.03 (eARC fix), and I can confirm that this does nothing to fix the Dolby audio lag from external HDMI devices when using an ARC connection.
So… I promised to come back after a while to report if the problem with the Samsung HW-Q70R soundbar is solved for me.
First of all: When I connected the soundbar directly (HDMI ARC) the problem was still there. Everything as before, maybe even a little worse.
BUT: After I somehow managed to connect the Smart Things App with the soundbar with a lot of patience (seriously Samsung, that thing is junk...) I was able to install an update for the soundbar. The app is a bit confusing and slow, but you only really need it for the updates, so it works for me.
Whatever. After the update eARC was available and the moment I activated it in the Settings of the TV the sync problems were gone. In every situation it was on pretty much 0 ms except YouTube. But YouTube is also vastly better. According to new measurements it is 20 to 50 ms (Before 200 to 300 ms) depending on the video (1080p and 4K differ here, where 4K sometimes has a higher delay). Most of the time I do not notice it anymore and I can absolutely live with it.
I don't know if it's because of eARC or if Samsung has found a solution to the problem that LG hasn't been able to fix for generations, but it works. I've had the TV for two months now and for the first time I can enjoy everything on it.
Sidenote: The audio sync with the Apple TV had to be removed afterwards So not recalibrated, that still caused sync-issues for me. After I removed the calibration, it was completely synchronized here as well.
Some HDMI 2.0 devices can be upgraded via firmware to eARC, some cannot. It all depends on the SoC. My guess is that LG used a chipset that wasn't upgradable for their 2019 HDMI 2.0 soundbars. That's most likely why they keep saying they have no plans to upgrade it. Either that or they want you to buy their new 2020 soundbars which are HDMI 2.1 and have eARC right out of the box.

Hi bjkirton,
Can you provide me the official response you got from LG?
I will also lodge a case with the ACCC.
Love the TV, but if LG is just going to ignore us on this, i am just going to get a refund on my C9.

Maybe start harassing them on Twitter lol.
Anyway, great TV otherwise!
same exact issue here, except add in huge delays on built in apps (youtube the most).
An update on my case.

What is the status of this ? No word from LG? Not being acknowledge as an issue?
Disgusting ...

Woke up. Watched a YouTube video. Severe lag. What the heck! I can confirm audio is still lagging with C9 connected directly to Samsung Q60R soundbar.
Adding my voice to this. Just got a brand new CX and I am having the same issue. I almost bought a new receiver because of it.
It's sad I cant use atmos on any of my devices right now.
Add me to the list, just bought a new Sonos Arc and experiencing significant delay with Dolby Atmos on the XBOX One X when using game mode on my LG C8,

C9's firmware is 4.80.03.
I have the LG C9 and just got the SN9YG yesterday.
My C9's firmware is 4.80.03.
My SN9YG software versions are, according to the LG Wifi Speaker app:
eARC is enabled on the TV. Soundbar is set to OPT/HDMI-ARC and says E-ARC on the LED panel.
There is a massive delay (seems like 0.25-0.5 seconds) if I try using Atmos through the Xbox One X. No delay via the C9 built-in apps (netflix, etc).
If I set Xbox to anything other than Atmos, there is no delay. Very disappointing.
Bumping this in hope we get a response from @JamalofLG we shouldn’t still be putting up with these issues!
Same with SL8Y soundbar. If select passthrough delay is worse, auto is better, but there is still delay with all internal apps.
Putting in my two cents here to say how disappointed I am that this problem still exists. I just purchased the new Sonos Arc soundbar which supports Dolby Atmos and I'm seeing a 100-200ms delay on pretty much all local app content (YouTube, Netflix etc.).

@JamalofLG Can you shed any light on these issues? it is completely unacceptable that this is still an issue.
I read in the SL8YG manual it didn't support DTS:X passtthrough, only supported by hdmi in. Maybe Samsung works similarly.

After the firmware update is the av sync option in the greyed out? That might mean that auto lip sync in earc may have started working.
