It worked to resolve it for me. Dolby Atmos now works as it should on my Xbox One X.
It does exactly what it says it does and even resolved an issue I didn't know it could fix, which is getting only Stereo sound out of the PS4 when you set the audio format to LCPM. With the SHARC connected, it fixed it and I can now get LCPM 5.1 surround from my PS4 Pro when I choose the option. Super happy with the SHARC!
Is there anyone with a Thenaudio Sharc + C9 + PS4 that could test for me if:
HDMI OUT 5.1 Dolby PS4 > C9 > Internal Speakers (100ms-140ms delay, +40ms is normal in Youtube App)
gets resolved with
HDMI OUT 5.1 Dolby PS4 > C9 > HDMI2 OUT (ARC) > Sharc > Optical Out to AVR/Other (0ms-40ms delay, +40ms is normal in Youtube App)? Or is there still a 100ms delay still?
Set sound output on TV to internal speaker > enabled Dolby Atmos > enabled AI Sound. (Did this as soon as I powered on the TV during intial setup, so I included the step here just in case it's part of the equation).
Set sound output to HDMI Arc > Output to Auto > Then made sure the sound output was BITSTREAM instead of PCM. (Noticable sync lag on XBOX One X and PC using Dolby Atmos content and youtube audio sync videos to confirm lag)
Set sound output on TV back to internal speaker, then disabled Atmos and AI sound.
Set sound back to HDMI ARC > Flipped output from Auto to Passthrough, to PCM, then back to Passthrough. Instantly the content synced and the issue was resolved. Confirmed Atmos was being played through my AVR on both XBOX One X and PC.
I powered off all devices to make sure it wasn't a fluke that reset after start-up, and the sync is still in check!

I agree that LG should release a firmware update that allows one to set negatives for audio sync issues. It's absurdly noticeable with "Game mode"!
I have a C9 and I can notice it adds a 100ms delay to the audio with Dolby Bitstream when in Game mode when it is receiving audio via HDMI.
Both with the C9's "Internal Speakers" and "Optical out".
Console connected to output device via its own Optical Out = 0ms delay with Bistream.
Would using the HDMI2 ARC Out to the Sharc device solve this or would it be the same, considering it still goes through the TV (unless a different path is taken when using ARC/eARC)?
Would be reallygrateful if anyone who has Thenaudio's Sharc test"Game mode" with "Console HDMI OUT - TV internal Speakers" vs "Console HDMI OUT - TV HDMI 2 ARC Out - Device". I would buy it straight away if I knew it would solve this issue.
Here are some video examples that show this:
#1 - AV Sync test with different outputs in slow motion (Youtube app in the PS4 adds its own 40ms delay):
#2 - Device receiving audio from Optical Out + TV receiving Bitstream Dolby audio from HDMI Out (notice that there are 2 pings one after the other, 1st is the device receiving from Optical, followed by TV receiving from HDMI):
New owner of a CX 65" and also having this issue. It is very frustrating to deal with.
Xbox -> TV -> Soundbar
Please LG release a firmware update that allows us to move into the negatives for audio delay.
Have invested in the Sharc earc converter in hopes of eliminating the lip sync issue for good...just not happy about having to drop more money to fix an issue that shouldn't even be an issue at this point.
Same here. New CX 65" with 03.10.20 firmware (Australian model).
Noticeable lag with the current setup:
PS4 Pro and Xbox One X both connected to TV directly with 2.1 compliant HDMI cables.
Audio passed through TV via HDMI (lag)
Audio passed through TB via Optical (lag)
Both Dolby Digital as no DTS option (Thanks LG)
If they can add negative slider functionality it would fix the issue. Worst part is that it's only slightly off. Probably one or two notches down on the slider would fix the problem.

@Spectreau Thanks for your suggestion. After hearing success of Thenaudio Sharc from a few sources with very similar setups (and LG OLEDs), I've taken the plunge and just placed my order. No doubt this will be the time for LG to announce a fix is on the way... Will report back on whether I have success as well, but would like to express my extreme disappointment in LG for not fixing this issue over a year and a half later and needing to spend even more money to try and fix it.

Thanks for the input @loomis2 , but this is reduces the quality of the audio to less than that of HDMI ARC. For those who have invested in Atmos or 7.1 audio systems, compressed Dolby 5.1 audio is a very big sacrifice to make and that is the main reason for this whole discussion. To put it simply, we either have to make large sacrifices to our other equipment if we want to use the LG TV.

I have a 55 C7 and a LG SJ9 connected with ARC. I don't have problems with the apps (or maybe I don't see the delay.) But I have problem with everything connected to the TV that running dolby sound (atmos and dolby digital). My first LG TV and my last. I have tried to fix this problem so many hours that if I just send LG the bill off my work hours the TV is going to pay itself.
Like others have done, I have also purchased a Thenaudio SHARC eARC Audio Converter (https://thenaudio.com/) for my LG C9 and SL8YG soundbar. This has resolved the lipsync issue with Dolby Atmos/TrueHD content and also enables me to keep key features of the TV for gaming such as VRR, etc.
Whilst I applaud Thenaudio for creating such a solution, the fact that we have to purchase an expensive third-party device to fix a fundamental design flaw by LG is beyond ridiculous. I have also now lost a HDMI input due to this. LG are more than capable of fixing this through a firmware/software update, especially for their own equipment that they have full control over. If a third-party can fix this, LG are definitely more than capable of doing the same.
FYI, I have also had all of my comments blocked for "review" by LG for the past few months, but they seemingly never appear on the thread...
Fixing it in the Soundbar won't help as it’s already had the delay added. Soundbar can’t move it forward in time. It would need to advise the TV to buffer and delay the video, which as far as I am aware, it’s an option.
In addition, if you are playing a game or something, you have now had to slow the video down to the pace of the audio which is just not an option, hence why the features we want are low latency modes, not increased latency modes :)
I have the same delay, when I try to fix it throw the sound bar application, they only let yo fix it up in positive direction, and I need the negative, like almost every one here , some please make some update either in the tv os or in the sound bar app
It’s really great to see you take it this far. This has been an issue since the LG C6! I have an LG C7 and I’m still annoyed there’s never been a fix for this. It’s definitely stopped me from ever buying an LG TV again. I still regularly check this thread just to see if LG has fixed it but they never will.
I finally got something in writing and it is basically “its within manufacturers specification” and plug into a sound bar instead and lose all the TV features.
I have asked for this specification as it would be quite informative and the users guides they provide all literally list the opposite as true saying the passthrough might make the audio go too fast and then you use the delay sliders to stop it.
If “intolerable to human perception” is “within manufacturers specs”, that would quite the insight into where the issue comes from, but I don’t believe there is anything like that in existence as it’s known that audio can’t be out of sync like this and hance all the fixes in 12 different speicifcations and audio delay sliders on every device in the chain… the all go the wrong way for this issue as NO ONE expects the AUDIO to be delayed. Clearly even LG themselves or the sliders would go the other way as well.
I wrote it all down trying to create a paper trail for the ACCC, but they are trying their best to avoid that it seems.
I will give them a few days to respond and then lodge the case with ACCC next week given time.
In the meantime, any written responses any of you have from LG might be helpful. Add some details if you have them.
Hi All, I just wanted to say I was having the exact same issue about a 150ms audio delay, especially noticeable on the YouTube app. Numerous hours spent trying to resolve it. Long story short I invested in a Thenaudio Sharc and the problem is solved.
Setup was Xbox One X - LG CX - Pioneer AVR (ARC).
Never had an issue with the Xbox connected directly to the AVR but I had to run it through the TV for VRR support.
I installed a Thenaudio Sharc which is an eARC audio processor to allow me to carry lossless Dolby ATMOS signal over eARC to my non-eARC AVR, instead of having to deal with DD+ over ARC.
One of the benifits of the Sharc is it supports eARC's automatic delay compensation of up to 170ms.
After install I have no issues. Appears to an issue with LG's implementation of passthrough or ARC. An easy firmware update to allow a negative offset would work but given this thread is years old I wouldn't hold my breath.
In the mean time I'd recommend picking up a Thenaudio Sharc.
Audio delay when using built in YouTube app from TV to sound bar with optical and same with Hdmi Arc.
There is useless AV sync in TV settings which only allows to increase sound delay from 0-15. No option to adjust to negative setting as it showed in online LG manual /advise. Bad bad bad. I really hope on firmware update soon.....
Oddly enough I only get sync issues on standard broadcasted TV and recording of these. Audio is delayed. My Apple TV connected through the TV and further on to the Sonos Arc sound at through HDMI has no issues. Neither with build in apps (Netflix, YouTube).
LG blames the Sonos sound bar and Sonos blames the TV.
It does not seem like the TV has an option to delay the picture under a/v sync. Only the sound.
clearly the sound bar is not a time machine so the only option here is also to delay sound.
Just bought a LG CX 55 and a SN7CY soundbar... and found out that I had a similar issue! Tried literally everything, including buying 2 HDMI 2.1 cables. When I test out delay, it's around 100ms which isn't too bad but it's still noticeable.
May say that it's a joke how there's still NO clear answer from LG on this. Over £2000 in total for everything and delay is still in place.
@JamalofLG We need a response! Can you at least recognise this is still an issue? and that you have passed it on to the correct team? This is causing a major upset that is definitely ruining the brands reputation.

The HDMI from sharc to SL8YG is in HDMI IN of SL8YG?
My setup with sharc (1.4) and my C9 (05.00.03) and my SL8YG not work.
Please help me. Thanks.

Is there anyone with a Thenaudio Sharc + C9 + PS4 that could test for me if:
HDMI OUT 5.1 Dolby PS4 > C9 > Internal Speakers (100ms-140ms delay, +40ms is normal in Youtube App)
gets resolved with

Using this video:
Would be really grateful, as I would have to pay over 35€ just to return to USA in case it doesn't work for me...
I powered off all devices to make sure it wasn't a fluke that reset after start-up, and the sync is still in check!

Sharc worked perfectly for me in resolving the issue (albeit I had to remove my HDMI Matrix Switch to get it to work correctly).
Sharc should hopefully resolve the lip sync issue when connected.
From their site:
"Support automatic lipsync delay correction with an internal delay compensation"
Any updates, if the sharc adapter works? Especially with an nonEArc receiver?
LG has quite a delay in replying to this issue...

Hi,
I had the same problem with my LG 55OLED C9.
i have upgraded my receiver to the Denon X3600H which is fully hdmi 2.1 and eARC and the problem has been solved for me.
i use following setup:
Xbox One X -> TV
Cable box Ziggo (Netherlands) -> Xbox
Nvidia shield tv 2017 -> TV
receiver -> TV
The Xbox One X is set in Dolby Atmos mode.
I think the eARC and hdmi 2.1 support on the receiver and TV did the trick for me
