1. If your LG TV is still experiencing video issues such as blacking out in 4K 120Hz mode, with the latest TV SW Version, you may need to check the following.

a. The HDMI cable needs to be a Ultra High Speed HDMI cable or just simply use the HDMI cable that comes with the Xbox Series X or S console.

image.png

b. Check the HDMI ports as some of the 2020 model has designated HDMI ports that support 4K 120Hz as shown in the table below:

image.png

2. For those who want to use AMD Freesync Premium, you can enable it @ All Settings >> Picture >> Additional Settings >> AMD FreeSync Premium as below.

image.png

Enabling AMD Freesync Premium will disable Dolby Vision as below.

image.png

You can choose Dolby Vision by disabling AMD Freesync Premium. However, it will be HDMI VRR instead of AMD Freesync Premium.

3. For those who want Dolby ATMOS audio through external audio systems (ie. sound bar or AVR) via ARC, you can improve audio delay by adjusting the following 2 options. (If eARC is supported by AVR or Soundbar)

image.png

① All Settings >> Sound >> Additional Settings >> Digital Sound Out >> Digital Sound Out : Pass Through

image.png

② All Settings >> Sound >> Additional Settings >> Digital Sound Out >> eARC On

image.png

4. [2020 OLED CX, GX, WX Series Only]

There will be just black screen when you switch color depth to 12 bits on 4K 120 output on current production TV SW V03.11.25 (As of today, Nov 12th 2020)

image.png

Please stay tune for next SW update. You will be able to enjoy in 4K120 VRR in 12 bit within a few weeks.

image.png

5. [ 2019 4K120 SUPPORTED MODEL ONLY ]

Once TV was updated to 4K 120 VRR supported TV SW listed in Table 1 above. (ie. V05.00.02 or V05.00.03), TV should be turned off about 8 ~ 10 mins while TV power cord is plugged in for updating HDMI chipset. Otherwise, you will see vertical black band or No Signal when launched game as shown in the image below.

[Image 2A. TV SW Updated to 05.00.03 still shows vertical black band]

image.png

[Image 2B. Vertical black band in random locations]

image.png

[Image 2C. No Signal upon launching Game with 4K120]

image.png

Vertical black band or No signal issues above can show up if HDMI chipset is not updated after TV SW update.

Please turn the TV off about 8-10 minutes with power cord plugged.  Updating HDMI chipset will happen when TV is turned off.  After 10 mins of TV being turned off, you will not be able to see that black vertical band again as shown in the image below.

Still having a lot of issues when trying to play 4K @ 120HZ with strange artifacts all over the screen on my C9 65":

    Warzone:

    https://streamable.com/csfbui

    https://streamable.com/78knse

    Star Wars:

     https://streamable.com/1fxxok

All cables are 2.1 (tried different and the original of the Xbox Series X). What am I doing wrong? I tried the following:

    - Colors changed from 8/10/12 bit within Xbox TV settings

    - HDMI cable swapped. Both original XSX HDMI 2.1 cable and 2 different 2.1 cables from Aliexpress. No improvement ..

    - Switched back to 60FPS, then problem has been solved at Warzone but I expected that there would only be some flickering in dark rooms at 120 FPS, I still find that acceptable. At Jedi Fallen Order, the XSX is still at 60FPS and the artifacts remain

    - Still playing around with TV in PC mode and then possibly change colors 8/10/12. I don't know any further than that.

Please help or fix this issue, greatly appreciated.

That's great. What about the ongoing Atmos bug where Xbox Series X with these settings (or even Apple TV4k) going into the CX and then out to ANY soundboard (including SN 11RG) gets random and frequent Dolby Atmos dropouts? This was introduced 2 firmwares or so ago, and has never been fixed

I'm very interested in knowing if my LG 75SM9900 will have the option to connect the VRR option on my Xbox Series X.

I am at my wits end with my C9. Getting frustrated with the LG product but more of the LG service.

I cannot get 4k 120hz, 4k 60hz, or even HDR to work as the xbox series x is not able to detect the TV. It is stuck in 480p.

When connected through 'Auto Detect' the max resolution I can get is 480p, I'm using the provided HDMI 2.1 cable that came with the xbox. If I change my source to HDMI I can get 1440p 60Hz but that is the max. No HDR or any perk that this TV is supposed to have.

I have tried several HDMI cables, all the ports. I have done a factory reset of the TV. I am on firmware 5.00.03. I brought my xbox and the provided HDMI cable to test on a friends C9 and there was no issues with autodetect was able to provide the 4k 120Hz (THIS RULES OUT THE XBOX).

I connect my xbox to a monitor and it is able to auto detect. (RULES OUT THE XBOX)

Problem with the TV.... I have reached out on the 10th via online and they assured I would get a response in 24-48 hours.... NOPE. I called on the 12th and filled a warranty request as it is not performing to spec. LG chat support is doing what they can with very little knowledge. I had my first visit on the 23rd and the response from them was very poor. Waited almost 2 weeks for them to come with some nonsense to change my HDMI cable and they washed their hands.

I had another tech come to check out but he was sent to verify that the ports work. The ports are working to spec. His method of checking the ports was connecting a dvd player and showing that it can display.

This is getting very tiring and honestly affecting me mentally.

XBox Series X 4k@120hz, dolby atmos, bitstream -> 2020 LG CX -> 2019 LG S10YG soundbar via eARC (dolby atmos supported natively )

Audio completely cuts out after about 10min in any xbox apps/games. Restarting app/tv/xbox gets sound working again for ~10min. There’s also a significant audio delay using eARC and Xbox apps, making watching YouTube/Netflix, and anything but BluRay disks nausea inducing.

Really awful of LG & Xbox to advertise all this next gen technology and none of it works (dolby atmos, dolby vision, 4k@120hz, VRR, eARC). About to return about $5k worth of equipment.

@dcliffo I encountered the same issue with the E9 OLED model. Once I change the refresh rate to 120Hz, the tv automatically forces my resolution from 4K to 1440p. HOWEVER, what I don't understand is, when I go up and change my resolution back to 4K, it seems to accept this new resolution. There seems to be different results depending on what order I change the resolution and refresh rate toggle?

Can someone please explain what's going on here? When I check my General 4K Tv details in the Xbox Series X settings, it has all of the green checkmarks for 4KUHD @ 120Hz, HDR10, etc...

At the end of the day, if we need to disable VRR then essentially, we are not getting 4K @ 120Hz.

    Hi Guys,

I have a LG C9 65. It is updated to the latest firmware. I am using a Ultra High Speed cable. My Xbox series X will only work when I unplug the tv and then plug it back in. This happens when I turn it on-needs to be unplugged. When I then go from the home page to a game-I need to unplug it and plug it back in. When I go from a game back to the home page-same thing. This happens on both 60hz and 120hz mode. The Xbox works perfectly on my 1080p/60 tv, but on my C9, it loses signal seemingly whenever the resolution changes. I've seen some acknowledgement of this issue, but it is all centered around 120hz and VRR-mine needs to be power cycled for every resolution change. It's doing the same thing with my PS5. This never happened with my One X or my PS4 Pro.

I'm kind of at a loss-it's clearly the tv that isn't reading the signal from the Series X after it starts up or changes resolution. I reset my tv to factory and that didn't change the issue. Is there a way to re-install the latest firmware maybe? When I reset the tv, the firmware update didn't wipe. I'm thinking that maybe the firmware didn't update correctly, and that could be part of it, but this is getting very, very frustrating.

    Any help would be swell.

    jamesdt247,

Were you watching an internal app or a device connected via HDMI? If internal app, try another app and see if the problem contiinues.

If you are viewing from and external device, change to a different HDMI input to see if the problems continues.

    dcliff,

Try changing to HDMI 3 or 4 and see if the problem continues.

    chudsrevenge,

The only suggestion I would have is using the Game Mode as it can help reduce screen tearing and input lag on the B7A.

Any insight into issues with the ThinQ models?

I have a brand new 65UN8500 series with 120Hz Native refresh, yet the Xbox Series X does not recongnize that capability.

It will do 4K UDH at 60Hz, or 1440p at 120HZ but not 4K UDH at 120Hz.

I spoke with Microsoft support and after trouble shooting they are indicating this is an LG Firmware issue and is not transmitting capabilities over the HDMI 2.1 port correctly.

I have a 65B7A-U. Is there something out there that will list the best settings to take advantage of the Series X? I know it will not have USB 2.1 support.

How about recommended video settings as well?

    Thanks
